IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT, 8/26/2024

Cavaliers, you are hereby formally invited to participate in the first ever schoolwide reading challenge beginning September 1st!

Students, Teachers, and Administrators are challenged to read at least 100 minutes between September 1st and December 1st and log reading progress in the Beanstack app located on LT1.

Readers can invite friends to participate in mini-challenges, earn badges, write book reviews, and keep an eye on the leaderboards all within the Beanstack app. Ms. Garinger has even hinted at some prizes for grade level participation, most minutes read, and other reader superlatives!

Additionally, there is an incentive to read up to 900 minutes and produce reading resource posts or posters for a possible 15 Cavs in Service hours. Details follow:

*Use the Beanstack app on LT1 to record the number of minutes you read each day and earn virtual badges as you track your progress.

*For every hour you read (15 total possible, 2 hours maximum per day) either post an Instagram post or create an 8 ½ x 11 inch print poster with catchy, colorful graphics about the value of reading, or your love of Libraries, or your love of your book. Make sure posts or posters have informative and educational value concerning these various topics, and are not simply a countdown of days of reading (see details below).

*Tag the LTHS Library Learning Commons with the handles below, and include #LTHSreads in the post (include your name and student ID on the back of any physical posters)!

*All social media posts must be printed out to submit with Cavs in Service Hours Submission forms available on the Cavs in Service website. All social media posts must display the date posted in the post (no “stories'' accepted). Print your Beanstack Reading Log and indicate on the signature line of the Hours Verification paperwork that the Log is the signature. Paperwork for this opportunity for 2024 hours is due during the Hours Submission Process in January of 2025. See “How to Participate in Cavs in Service” here: https://lths.ltisdschools.org/activities/cavs-in-service/how-cavs-in-service-works

Expectations:

A maximum of 15 hours of Cavs in Service credit allowable (with accompanying social media posts or print posters for each credited hour of the 900 minutes of reading maximum).

Instagram posts or print posters must contain valuable information and educational content promoting the value of literacy, or the value of Libraries, or the value of the book you are reading. Essentially, each post or poster should be designed to get people excited about reading. Each post must have an eye-catching visual component as well as personally reflective ideas and observations in text. Only one post is allowed per day, and only 2 hours of reading will be credited per day (this is to prevent leaving them all until the deadline).

When turning in Cavs in Service paperwork for credit, each Instagram post must be printed out with the date on the post visible. Either Instagram posts (not stories) or print posters will be accepted. If you do not have an Instagram account, you may use a parent’s account. Each post must be viewable to the community and you should work with your parents on setting the account settings for digital safety. Each post must include #LTHSreads, and for Instagram posts: @thelibraryiseverywhere and if you are posting about a book you are reading, the Instagram of the author.

HAVE FUN READING & COMPETING IN THE CHALLENGE, CAVS!!!
